Kelly's Garage - Active Green and Ross - October 2010

Halloween to Easter is the general guideline for having your winter tires on. However, it seems many people were afraid we might get some snow in July as they still had their winter tires on their vehicle….. If you happen to be one of those people, I don’t want to hear you complaining about how your winter tires that you spent a lot of money on, are now prematurely worn out!

This Months Topic: Winter Tires

No longer are winter tires called snow tires. This is because it’s not just about going through snow. It is also about gripping the road at cold temperatures. At temperatures colder than + 7 degrees Celsius the elasticity or the ability to grip the road of your All Season tire is pretty much gone. This will greatly impact your ability to stop in an emergency situation. Winter tires are the equivalent of us putting winter boots on our feet. If you’ve never put them on you have no idea what you are missing and when you do you’ll wish you had done it sooner.

Now is the time to buy winter tires, as many of manufacturers are offering rebates on the purchase of 4. (notice the coupon in this email) Make sure when you go into your local Active Green and Ross store you make sure to ask what specials they have. When you buy 4 winter tires, changeovers are done at no charge to you. This is a great value added feature offered by Active Green and Ross.

Like anything there are varying qualities of tires. Important factors to keep in mind when determining what tires to buy are; how much driving do you do and what is your budget? If you are on the road for extended amounts of time, then you need to try and buy the best winter tires you can afford.

You may also want to consider purchasing a set of black steal wheels when buying winter tires. This way you can keep them permanently mounted. The cost will usually work itself out with 2-3 years.

If you have no place to store your second set of tires, ask your Active Green and Ross shop if they can store them for you? There is usually a nominal fee associated with this but it saves so much time and aggravation.

The last thing to remember is to get your winter tires installed before the first snowstorm! Be proactive in preparing for winter and you’ll be laughing as everyone else is slipping and sliding on the first snowy day.

Take care of your car and it will take care of you!

If your tires don’t have this mountain with a snow flake symbol on them they are not a winter tire.
