It feels like fall is right around the corner! The nights are getting cooler; the kids are getting ready to go back to school and the Labour Day weekend is upon us. I myself will be going away this long weekend and can hardly wait! I hope that you enjoy your last days of summer and have no vehicle woes but guess what, many people do have vehicle issues and in some cases it is likely due to something that could have been avoided and other times not. (I see many people driving around on practically flat tires, this is an avoidable circumstance) If you do have vehicles issues I hope that you have some sort of roadside assistance program to at least minimize the aggravation.

Have a great long weekend!

Labour day used to be celebrated in the spring and was moved to the fall in 1895.  Canada also inspired Labour Day events in many other countries including the United States.

This month's topic: The value of roadside assistance

I decided to write about roadside assistance because this is something that many of us don’t think we really need and then “bam” we are broke down on the side of the road wishing we had it. This happened to a friend of mine recently, her and her three children recently went to the city to visit some friends and all of sudden her car started chugging badly.  She called her husband but I ended up speaking to her.  I asked her what her temperature gauge was at and she indicated she had no idea. (She didn’t even know she had one). Once she found it, the needle was fully in the red.  Not a good sign.  I asked her if she had roadside assistance and she told me they had decided not to renew it due to tight finances.  In the end, she was able to renew it and was able to get rescued but what a pain in the neck and a stressful situation. Imagine having three kids, stuck on the side of the road and it’s nighttime.  As a female, this is something I would be very stressed about.  I personally have had CCA for the past five years since all of my vehicles have run out of their factory roadside assistance program.  Since I live in the country I decided to get the CAA Plus as you can have your vehicle towed 200km up to 4 times a year and it’s good for any vehicle you are in.  So if you are with a friend and they break down as long as you are with them you can use your card and it’s also great if you happen to lock your vehicle with the keys in it I’ve used my card a number of times to rescue my boyfriend who thinks roadside assistance is a waste of time.  He always tells me why should he buy it when he has me…this has been a great investment and a great peace of mind for me. Even if you live in the city I would recommend CAA plus rather than the base card because the base package only gives you a tow of 10kms.  What if the Active Green and Ross store you have your vehicle serviced at is further away then 10km?  You’re out of luck!

Take care of your car and it will take care of you!
