We are officially into summer and many of us are enjoying all of the things associated with summer. Spending time with family, taking vacations, gardening and maybe a bit of sitting on the beach. I know I’ve been enjoying the warm weather and I hope you are too! This weekend is the long weekend and I wanted to you to be careful if your weekend includes driving anywhere. Unfortunately not everyone is always responsible and accidents happen. Don’t be one of the statistics.

Also, I wanted to let you know that I am booking my fall car care clinics. When I book a clinic at an Active Green and Ross store I add it to their website. Be sure to check it to see if there is a clinic coming up in your area. www.activegreenross.com

Have a great long weekend!

The August long weekend is a civic holiday.  In Toronto it is known as Simcoe day, but in Newfoundland it is known as Regatta day.

This month's topic: Summer Road Trip

Many people like to take road trips as part of their family vacation. I know I’ve written about this before, but you have likely deleted the email by now or have forgotten where it is. (It was last year after all :))

Taking a road trip can be a lot of fun, but it can also be very stressful if things don’t go according to plan. I know when I used to race in Alberta it was a 38-hour road trip where a multitude of things could go wrong. Changing a flat tire on the trailer is something we did more than once; we missed a few deer and also had some mechanical issues along the way. Fortunately, we were never stranded and always made the journey to the races. This comes with being prepared and doing a bit of maintenance beforehand. The longer the trip the more thought you need to put into being prepared. Have you been putting off a brake job that you need…maybe you should do that before you go away. The last thing you want is to be stranded on the side of the road or not even make your destination because of something that could’ve been avoided.

If you are getting ready to go on a road trip here is a checklist of things to check.

  1. Check your oil- if your engine has no oil, it could seize up.
  2. Check your tire pressures- do you really want to unload your vehicle to find your spare tire and then change it on the side of the road?
  3. Have games to play if you have kids
  4. Have snacks for the children and for you
  5. GPS or a roadmap are always a good idea
  6. First aid kit (just in case)

I am also attaching a great Road Trip book that was produced by Be Car Care Aware. I highly recommend printing it out. There are some great tips and also games etc. that can be played in the car. Wherever you are heading this summer, enjoy the trip, stay safe and take lots of photo! http://www.activegreenross.com/images/pdf/BCCA_family_road_trip_guide.pdf

Take care of your car and it will take care of you!
